Identifying and Mitigating Frauds and Cyber Threats during the Pandemic

**THIS IS A COMPLIMENTARY WEBINAR**

April 29, 2020
2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. EST

While we are doing our best to stop a biological threat, fraudsters are doing their best to play on people’s anxiety and fears to reap the maximum reward.

Unsuspecting consumers and businesses are falling victim to a variety of scams and cyberattacks designed to steal money, information, and identities. Credit Unions are caught in the middle, at times uncertain how to handle the situation or what resources are available. This uncertainty is too often leading to mishandling, leaving the member vulnerable to financial loss or the CU exposed to risks including non-compliance, lawsuits, and severe reputational damage.

Topics that may be covered:

  • Members attempting to recover debit and credit card losses through the CU (i.e. canceled travel plans due to pandemic/hotel closures, “test kits,” “cures,” etc.)
  • Stimulus frauds (counterfeit checks, “overpayments,” calls from “IRS” demanding immediate tax payments via prepaid cards, etc.)
  • Cyber scams and attacks including phishing themes, ransomware, increase in viruses and delivery methods, scams for sale (super cheap), primary targets (elderly and work from home), etc.
  • How CUs are leading the fight against these frauds
  • Investigation strategies
  • How fraudsters are feeding on people’s anxiety and fear to carry out fraud
  • Resources
