About the Speaker

Shari Storm spent 16 years as an executive at a Seattle credit union, where she oversaw marketing and IT. 

Her proudest accomplishments at Verity Credit Union included being named an Innovator of the Decade by Net.Banker, heading up the successful Verity Mom campaign, and participating in Filene's prestigious i3 program. 

Her first book, Motherhood is the New MBA: Using Your Parenting Skills to be a Better Boss was published by St. Martin's Press. With almost 20,000 copies sold, it has been translated into Mandarin and purchased for publications in four countries. The book has received tremendous press, including Time and Redbook magazines, Martha Stewart's radio, BusinessWeek online, the Costco Connection and the cover of the Metro News New York, to name a few. 

Shari has been named a Woman of Influence by CU Times. She has been featured in American Banker, Credit Union Management, and The CEO Report. 

She is now the CEO of Category 6 Consulting, which specializes in developing strategy with a strong focus on culture, marketing, and fintech. 

Shari received her undergraduate degree from University of Washington and her MBA from Seattle University. 

Shari lives in Edmonds, WA with her three teen daughters, her movie-making husband and a dog named Cedar.

Investment Off Ramps to Avoid: All That Glitters is Not Gold

As investment professionals, we are often told to be active and diversified. However, not all investment instruments deserve your attention. VolCorp’s Phillip Cochran, CIO, and Cassie Fivecoat, Investments Representative, discuss various investment options that may not offer what they claim.

About the Speakers

Phillip Cochran is the Senior Vice President/ Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Volcorp. 

While managing VolCorp’s investment portfolio and liquidity, Phillip also directs the marketing, sales, analytics, accounting and support functions of all VolCorp investment services to both client credit unions and client corporate credit unions. Joining VolCorp in August of 2004, Phillip has served in the Consulting Department as well as the Investment Department. He was named Chief Investment Officer in 2010, and Senior Vice President in 2016. He also sits on the CU Investment Solutions LLC Board of Managers. Prior to joining the corporate, Phillip was an investment manager at a private investment firm in the Nashville area.

Phillip is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Phillip has a Bachelor of Business degree, with a focus in finance, from Belmont University, a Masters of Science of Accounting from Maryville University and holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 securities licenses.

BSA Annual Training for Volunteers

11:25 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

As leaders of your credit union, it is incumbent on you to under the requirements under the Bank Secrecy Act and other anti-money laundering (AML) rules and regulations in order to maintain proper oversight of your credit union’s BSA compliance program. In this session, we’ll examine the applicable BSA/AML laws, rules, and regulations; discuss the elements of a strong BSA compliance program and examiner expectations; and review recent enforcement actions related to violations of the BSA and other anti-money laundering provisions.

About the Speaker

Kristen Tatlock is a nationally-known speaker and compliance consultant with over 30 years of experience in the credit union compliance arena. Kristen assists credit unions with compliance issues ranging from advertising rules to bylaws, from Social Media compliance matters to Regulation Z, from Bank Secrecy Act to Fair Lending rules, and just about every regulation and compliance concern in between.

Kristen has earned Compliance and Bank Secrecy Act certifications from both national credit union trade associations. She regularly presents compliance training programs for national credit union organizations, state leagues and associations, and credit unions around the country. She has also edited and revised numerous compliance training courses and modules for CUNA CPD and has authored articles for various CUNA publications.

Kristen joined Aux, in April 2017 with the company’s acquisition of COMPASS 4 CUs, LLC. She had served as Vice President of that organization since February 2011.  Prior to that, she was the Director of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs for the Virginia Credit Union League for over 20 years.

Peter Sullivan is a senior executive benefits specialist for TruStage, a company that specializes in the design, implementation, financing and ongoing administrative support of supplemental executive benefit programs specifically tailored to credit unions.

Peter is located in the Eastern Region and brings to TruStage his experience in the financial services industry since 1990.

Andrew Barr with the Kentucky Credit Union League will discuss the importance and philosophy of a Supervisory Committee, best practices as a Supervisory Committee member, and will lead a roundtable where questions and engagement from the attendees are encouraged. 

About the Speaker

Andrew Barr is the CU Support & Engagement Officer with the Kentucky Credit Union League.  Mr. Barr is also an active Supervisory Committee member with a $11 million Credit Union where he has been a volunteer for 6 years. Mr. Barr also has experience with Lending, Member Service, Collections, Internal Operations, and Executive Support with Small and Large Credit Unions.

Ray Cole started working in his family's IGA store in Kingsley, Iowa as a young boy. But after graduating from college, he set out on a career in broadcasting that now spans five decades. Ray has held leadership roles on the boards of ABC-TV, the National Association of Broadcasters, the Television Bureau of Advertising, and the Broadcasters Foundation of America. He has been recognized for his contributions to the broadcast industry and service to local communities and was inducted into the Iowa Broadcasters' Hall of Fame in 2015. Ray's morning keynote message on leadership, teamwork, and success will be punctuated by entertaining and inspiring anecdotes involving WINNERS from the worlds of television, sports, entertainment, and politics.

About the Speaker

Ray Cole is Hall of Fame broadcaster whose career spans five decades. As president and chief operating officer of Citadel Communications Company, he has held leadership roles on the boards of the ABC-TV Affiliates Association, National Association of Broadcasters, Television Bureau of Advertising and Broadcasters Foundation of America. Ray has been recognized for his leadership in the broadcasting industry and his contributions to the community at large, including being presented the Robert D. Ray Pillar of Character Award in July, 2019.
